Day 02: Pyramids Tour

After breakfast, your Guide will collect you for a full day visiting the famous Pyramids in the area. We begin with the famous Giza Plateau to visit the only remaining wonder from the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - the Great Pyramid of Khufu (called Cheops by the Ancient Greeks). Also on the plateau are the pyramids of Khafre (Chephren) and the smaller one of Menkaure (Mykerinos). The plateau is as famous for the mysterious structure 'The Sphinx' as it is for the Pyramids, where you will visit the Valley Temple. Your visit to Giza will include enough time to do the optional visit to the Solar Boat Museum, which was the vessel used to carry the Pharaoh’s Mummified remains across the Nile, before being buried at the foot of the pyramid for use in his afterlife. From Giza Pyramids you drive to Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara, which is the first Pyramid built in Egypt and designed by Imhotep. It is at Saqqara that the first spells for the Pharaoh's afterlife were found. Whilst there, you will also see Teti's Pyramid and several ancient tombs. Then you will be transferred to Dahshur Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramids which were founded by King Snefru – the founder of the Old Kingdom. Both Pyramids the Bent and Red create the link between the Step Pyramid at Sakkara and the Pyramids of Giza. After Dahshure, you will be escorted back to your Hotel for a peaceful overnight stay in Cairo.

Day 03: Cairo Sightseeing

Enjoy your breakfast at the Hotel in Cairo before being accompanied by your private expert Tour Guide to the world-renowned Egyptian Museum in Cairo, built in neo-classical style and designed by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon. The Museum's vast collection of over 120,000 artifacts range from pre-dynastic era, through the Pharaonic era to the Greco-Roman period of Egypt. Amongst the most famous items which you may see are the funerary treasures of the child King Tutankhamun, the colossal statues of the heretic king, Akhenaten, and the only surviving image of Khufu, creator of Egypt's Great Pyramid. Visiting the museum is a great introduction to learning about the ancient Egyptian civilization, including their famous art of mummification. Then on to visit the Citadel of Saladin, named after the Kurdish Muslim who became the first Sultan of Egypt and Syria and who was noted for his chivalry. The Citadel is overlooked by the Muqattam Hills and includes the Mohammed Ali Alabaster Mosque which was built in Turkish style and, very similar to the Blue Mosque in Turkey, its minarets can be seen from any part of old Cairo. Your tour then takes you to the Christian heritage in Coptic Cairo, including some of the early religious monuments of the city such as the Hanging Church. This basilica church was named for its location on top of the south gate of the Fortress of Babylon and became the center of the Christian Church of Egypt. This full day ends transferring back to your hotel for free time at leisure and overnight stay in Cairo.
* Please note - There are additional charges to enter inside any of the Pyramids and The Solar Boat Museum. Also an additional charge to enter the Mummies Room at the Egyptian Museum. Please consult your Tour Guide if you wish to enter any of these.

There will be free time to explore the different parts of the huge complex built during the reign of various Pharaohs. Then moving to Luxor Temple which was built by Amenhotep III and Ramses II for rituals and festivals, dedicated to the God Amon. Enjoy some free time for shopping in Luxor. Early morning relaxing breakfast at your Hotel in Luxor and then a highlight of your tour to the incredible West Bank resting place and home to many Ancients on The Nile River. An exploration of the huge twin statues known as the Colossi of Memnon by Amenhotep III, and then to the world famous Valley of the Kings, original burial site of the boy King Tutankhamun where the magnificent Tombs were discovered carved deep into the desert rock, richly decorated and filled with treasures for the afterlife of the Pharaohs, and have the opportunity to visit three Tombs (The three tombs visited are determined by the Egyptian Government as to preserve them from the large flow of visitors, therefore are rotated throughout the year and cannot be confirmed as to which tombs prior to your visit).
Continuing on to visit Hatshepsut’s Temple at El Deir El Bahary. This impressive Temple was dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut the only female Pharaoh, which rises out of the desert plain in a series of terraces and merges with the sheer limestone cliffs.

Day 07: Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples - Sail to Aswan

Enjoy breakfast then you will be transferred by a horse drawn carriage to visit the huge Ptolemaic Temple of Horus at Edfu, which is the most complete and best preserved of the Egyptian Temples, consisting of many columns, halls, chambers and chapels. Two statues of Horus flank the twin towered entrance gate and inside, one of the interesting inscriptions lists the titles of books (scrolls) held in the library. Continue sailing to Kom Ombo with lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and overnight onboard your cruise, where you will be accompanied by your Egyptologist Tour Guide to visit Kom Ombo Temple. Of all the ancient Temples in Egypt, this is the only one which is divided into two, to reflect that it is dedicated to two Gods: Sobek, the crocodile God of fertility and the falcon-headed Horus, God of the sky. Kom Ombo is also famous for the depictions of surgeon's instruments, giving us an early record of medicine and surgery in Ancient Egypt. The rest of the day is spent at leisure during sailing to Aswan with dinner and overnight onboard inside your private cabin.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 08: Aswan Nile Cruise Tours

After enjoying breakfast onboard your cruise ship in Aswan you will be met by your Guide to visit the Aswan High Dam which was built in the 1960’s to provide the much needed electricity and irrigation for the country. Nubia, the area that was flooded, experienced the biggest and most thorough archaeological excavations that Egypt has ever known. Then we explore the ‘Unfinished Obelisk’ which still lies in the granite quarries which provided ancient Egypt with building materials. It would have been the largest piece of stone ever handled but when a crack was discovered it was abandoned where it was being hewn. Cross by boat to Angilika Island, to see the Temple of Isis at Philae which is one of the Nubian temples rescued before the High Dam was built. Enjoy Philae’s long colonnades, towers and reliefs which include the last surviving hieroglyphic and demotic inscriptions in Egypt. Return to your Nile cruise ship for lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and leisurely free time in Aswan. Overnight stay aboard the cruise.

Day 09: Aswan to Abu Simbel Optional Tour

Enjoy breakfast on board your Nile cruise Aswan before disembarkation from the Nile cruise then you will be transferred to your Hotel for check-in with free time at leisure in Aswan and overnight stay. Highly recommended is the optional excursion to Abu Simbel Temples (Abu Simbel remains one of Egypt's top tourist attractions ) to see the magnificence of these Temples. They are undisputedly one of the world's most breathtaking monuments, and Egypt’s second most visited tourist site (the Pyramids of Giza being on the top of the list) the most remarkable feature of the Temple of Abu-Simbel is that the construction is oriented in a way that twice a year, the morning sun rays shine through the length of the inner temple cave and illuminate the statues of the four gods seated at the end of the cave. Overnight in Aswan.
