Just as the name says, Islamic Cairo refers to the part of the Capital District that is crammed with mosques. It includes several monuments that were dated several centuries ago.

THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS

 

 

The valley of kings is home to the tombs of pharaohs that have been buried for up to 4500 years. Located in Upper Egypt (West of the Nile), the valley was the burial site of kings from the 18th, 19th, and 20th century. The walls of the valley are covered with sculptures and paintings. These are said to depict the dead king in the presence of deities.  It is believed that this helps the king through the perils of the afterlife. The most complex tomb in the valley (number 5) contains the burial chambers of the sons of Ramses 2. 
The valley of kings is located in Luxor, the same area where the largest temple in the country (Karnak temple) is situated. With 134 columns measuring up to an average of 20 meters, the temple is ideally dedicated to one of the principal gods of Egypt- Amun-Re. 

 

 

 

ABU SIMBEL

 

 

Located in Aswan, this UNESCO preserved site is a stunning sight to behold. This place is not only fantastic for lovers of history, but it is also an architectural masterpiece. Visitors often get lost in the beauty of the finely decorated interiors as well as the beautiful paintings on the wall. In 1964, UNESCO carried out a relocation to avoid the disappearance of this site. This step was taken due to the over flooding of the Aswan Dam. Today, visitors marvel at the statues of Ramses II as well as other large carvings masterfully curated to leave a lasting impression on every visitor.
