Day 4: Istanbul - Izmir - Pergamon - Tiatira - Izmir

After enjoying our morning meal, we will depart from the hotel in Istanbul and board a flight to Izmir. Our first destination upon arrival will be Pergamon, an ancient Roman city that was once incredibly prosperous and known as the birthplace of parchment. We will have the opportunity to explore the ruins of the Acropolis, which sits atop a mountain in present-day Bergama. Here, we can marvel at various historical sites, including the world's steepest theater, the Temple of Trajan, the Temple of Athena, and the remnants of the Altar of Zeus, famously mentioned as "The Throne of Satan" in Saint John's Letter. Moving on, we will visit the Red Basilica, originally a temple dedicated to Egyptian deities but later converted into a basilica by the Byzantines. Pergamon is also renowned as the hometown of Galen, one of the most distinguished physicians of ancient times. We will have the opportunity to explore the ruins of his El Asclepeion hospital. Continuing our journey, we will proceed to Thyatira, now known as Akhisar, a city famous for its production of purple dyes. Here, we will explore the remnants of a Byzantine-era basilica before returning to Izmir. The day will conclude with a delightful dinner at your hotel and an overnight stay in Izmir.

Day 5: Izmir - Sardes - Philadelphia - Laodicea - Pamukkale

The day begins with breakfast, followed by the start of the tour in Sardes, which is now known as Salihli. Sardes, the former capital of Lydia, was a prosperous city and holds the distinction of being the place where the first gold coins were produced. The famous myth of King Midas is set in Sardes, with its origins in the gold-rich sands of the Pactolo River that flows through the city's ruins. It's worth mentioning that the Temple of Artemis, the Gymnasium, and the Synagogue are all connected to Philadelphia. One of the highlights is a visit to the Church of Saint Juan, which was a rectangular structure with six pillars made from recycled stone and a brick upper section. After exploring Philadelphia, we will continue our journey to Pamukkale, specifically to Laodicea, where Saint John wrote his final letter to the city. In Laodicea, we will have the opportunity to visit the Basilica, the Temple, and the theaters. Finally, we will transfer to our hotel in Pamukkale for dinner and an overnight stay.
