Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples - Sail to Aswan

Today is a special day as you will begin your sailing along the beautiful tranquil Nile, unchanged for centuries with life going as as if nothing has changed. Scenic views of villages and locals along the banks make this a truly enjoyable experience. You will pass through the large Lock at Esna before arriving at Edfu. The huge Ptolemaic Temple of Horus at Edfu is the most complete and best preserved of the Egyptian Temples, consisting of many columns, halls, chambers and chapels. Two statues of Horus flank the twin towered entrance gate; and inside, one of the interesting inscriptions lists the titles of books (scrolls) held in the library. After the tour, sailing will continue with lunch and afternoon tea on board before reaching Kom Ombo. Here, your guide will accompany you to visit Kom Ombo Temple, the only ancient Temple in Egypt divided into two, reflecting its dedication to two Gods: Sobek, the Crocodile God of fertility; and the falcon-headed Horus, God of the sky. Kom Ombo is also famous for the depictions of surgeon's instruments, giving us an early record of medicine and surgery in Ancient Egypt. Finally you will sail on to Aswan under the large structure of Aswan Bridge known as the Gateway to ‘Nubia’. Arriving in Aswan for an overnight stay and dinner on board.

Aswan Nile Cruise Tours

After breakfast on board your luxurious Nile Cruise, enjoy a day’s sightseeing in Aswan. Starting with the Aswan High Dam, built in the 1960’s to provide the much needed electricity and irrigation for the country. Nubia, the area which was flooded, experienced the biggest and most thorough archaeological excavations that Egypt has known. Then you will go to view the ‘Unfinished Obelisk’ which still lies in the granite quarries which provided ancient Egypt with building materials. It would have been the largest piece of stone ever handled but when a crack was discovered it was abandoned where it was being hewn. Cross by boat to Angilika Island, to see the Temple of Isis at Philae which is devoted to the two goddesses Isis and Hathor and one of the Nubian Temples rescued before the High Dam was built. Enjoy Philae’s long colonnades, towers and reliefs which include the last surviving hieroglyphic and demotic inscriptions in Egypt. Dinner and overnight on board deluxe Nile Cruise. There is an optional tour to see the Philae Temple Sound and Light Show in the evening.
