Jordan Adventure Tour - In the Footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia
T.E. Lawrence crossed this country by camel in 1917, and much of the terrain he described in Seven Pillars of Wisdom looks exactly as it did then. This 8 day Jordan adventure tour retraces that route, starting where he started — in the south, on the Red Sea coast.
You fly from Amman to Aqaba, the port Lawrence famously captured from the desert side, then head inland to Wadi Rum for a night in a Bedouin camp among the sandstone towers he called vast and echoing and god-like. From there the road climbs north to Petra, where two nights give you a full guided day at the Siq, the Treasury and the Royal Tombs, plus time to explore the further trails at your own pace.
The route continues through Ma'an to the Dana Biosphere Reserve, Jordan's largest protected area, with a night at the guesthouse on the escarpment edge. Then Tafileh and the Crusader fortress at Karak before returning to Amman, finishing with the Umayyad Desert Castles and the oasis at Azraq — Lawrence's own winter headquarters.
