Your tour leader collects you from your hotel in Amman, and you'll drive southwest to the town of Madaba.
Set into the floor of St George's Church is a sixth-century mosaic map of the Holy Land — the oldest surviving map of the region anywhere, and the earliest known detailed depiction of Jerusalem. It was found by builders in the 1880s who had no idea what they were digging through.
From there you continue to Mount Nebo, the ridge where the Prophet Moses is said to have looked out over the promised land, and traditionally identified as his burial place. You'll visit the old monastery and take in the view across the Jordan Valley towards the Dead Sea, Jericho and — on a clear day — the hills beyond.
The day finishes at the Dead Sea, over 400 metres below sea level and the lowest point on the surface of the earth. Water around ten times saltier than the ocean makes sinking impossible, and you'll have leisure time at the beach to float.
A word of advice before you get in: don't shave that morning, keep the water away from your eyes, and rinse off properly afterwards.
Afterwards you'll be driven back to your hotel in Amman, around seven hours after setting out on this Madaba day trip.
