Itinerary

Your Morocco eclipse adventure commences upon touchdown in Casablanca. Our friendly representative awaits at the airport exit, prepared to facilitate your smooth transfer to your thoughtfully chosen accommodation.
Take this evening to unwind and acclimate, building anticipation for the remarkable experiences awaiting you.

Overnight: Casablanca

After your morning meal, connect with your experienced local guide for an immersive Casablanca discovery. Marvel at the Hassan II Mosque from outside. This architectural triumph stands majestically above the Atlantic waters, displaying exceptional Islamic artistry and engineering. Your exploration continues along the picturesque corniche, through the distinctive Habous neighborhood, with a photo stop at the Royal Palace exterior.

As the afternoon arrives, head north to Rabat, Morocco's sophisticated capital. Established by Abd Al-Mu'min of the Almohad dynasty as a military fortress, the city's ancient name, "Ribatu l-Fath," means "victory's stronghold." Your guided experience uncovers Rabat's layered past through stops at the Royal Palace, the towering Hassan structure, and the scenic Kasbah Oudaya.

Spend free time exploring the old medina's bustling souks and markets, where leather artisans, shoe vendors, bag makers, Berber craftspeople, and jewelry merchants showcase their traditional wares.

Overnight: Rabat

Meals: Breakfast

Following breakfast, journey northward to Tangier, lovingly called the "Bride of the North." This strategically positioned city guards the Strait of Gibraltar's southern approach, separated from Spanish shores by merely a few miles. From ancient Phoenician times through today, Tangier has bridged the African and European worlds.

Navigate the sun-washed hillside medina where Dar el Makhzen rises, a former sultan's residence now functioning as a repository for Moroccan historical treasures. Begin at the Kasbah's Mediterranean Cultures Museum before venturing into the animated Petit Socco and Grand Socco marketplaces, sampling regional specialties and optional street cuisine.

Step inside the American Legation Museum, housing notable artworks including the famous "Moroccan Mona Lisa." Visit the intriguing St. Andrew's Anglican Church, constructed in distinctive Moroccan architectural fashion with the Lord's Prayer rendered in Arabic calligraphy above the worship space.

Overnight: Tangier

Meals: Breakfast

This day delivers the journey's pinnacle, experiencing the magnificent solar eclipse phenomenon in Morocco!

Position yourself to witness the Tangier eclipse 2027 as it unfolds across the sky. This generational celestial event converts day into dusk as the moon transits between our planet and the sun, creating an astronomical memory that transcends typical travel experiences.

After the midday eclipse observation, proceed to Chefchaouen, the captivating "Blue Pearl" cradled in the Rif Mountains. Your guide leads an in-depth tour through this mountain sanctuary, visiting the Kasbah Ali Ben Rachid, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, and wandering extensively through azure-washed passages.

The city's signature blue palette covering virtually every surface stems from Jewish heritage, where blue symbolizes heaven's expanse above, connecting earthly dwellers to the divine realm. This chromatic consistency generates an ambiance of extraordinary beauty, serenity, and peaceful reflection.

Overnight: Chefchaouen

Meals: Breakfast

Post-breakfast, set out toward Fez with rewarding pauses at Meknes and Volubilis.

First, explore the Volubilis ruins, a UNESCO-designated archaeological treasure documenting Morocco's diverse cultural tapestry. Your specialist guide navigates these Roman settlement remnants, showcasing grand Triumphal structures, the Capitoline Temple dedicated to Jupiter, and stunning Orpheus mosaics depicting ancient daily life.

Continue to Meknes, an Imperial City receiving fewer visitors yet offering equivalent grandeur. Sultan Moulay Ismail's ambitious vision of creating Morocco's Versailles produced remarkable urban architecture. Your guide presents the magnificent Bab El Mansour and Lhri gateways, architectural masterpieces forming the city's vibrant core.

Progress onward to Fez as the evening approaches.

Overnight: Fez

Meals: Breakfast

Following your morning meal, embark on an extensive guided experience in Fez, exploring the city that served as Morocco's administrative seat until 1912. Focus today on the Medina, UNESCO-recognized as a heritage site dating to the 9th century, housing humanity's longest-operating university.

Your accomplished guide unveils Fez's jewels: the ornate Bou-Inania and Attarin Islamic schools, the renowned tanneries with rainbow-hued dye vats, Ess-Seffarine artisan plaza, Moulay Idriss's sacred tomb, El-Nejjarine craftsmen's square, and the Mellah, the historic Jewish neighborhood.

Participate in a genuine Moroccan tradition through a practical pottery session led by a master craftsperson. Following lunch at an authentic neighborhood restaurant, decide between hotel relaxation or independent medina wandering through ancient, labyrinthine passages.

Cultural highlight: Every October, Fez presents one of the planet's most celebrated Sufi gatherings, attracting spiritual performers from around the globe.

Overnight: Fez

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, commence your Sahara journey via Ifrane and Midelt toward Erfoud. This desert gateway region attracts archaeologists worldwide for its ancient fossil deposits spanning centuries.

Upon reaching the desert edge, embark on an extraordinary 4-wheel-drive adventure across the majestic barren dunes. Witness the spectacular sunset's changing colors as you traverse toward your Merzouga desert encampment.

Overnight: Merzouga (Desert Camp)

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Rise before dawn to experience the magical sunrise over dunes from Camelback. Today's journey between Erfoud and Ouarzazate includes your English-speaking driver, with a spectacular stop at Todra Gorge. These dramatic limestone canyon walls, located southwest of Tinerhir, approximately 110 km (65 miles) from Ouarzazate, provide stunning photographic opportunities.

Continue driving to Ouarzazate, pausing at Skoura among Morocco's most beautiful palm oases. While appearing as a narrow, elongated oasis from the roadside, closer investigation reveals its impressive expanse and natural splendor.

Overnight: Ouarzazate

Memorable from Start to Finish

Everything went smoothly, and Memphis Tours took care of every detail. The desert camp was magical, although a bit cold at night, so bring layers. Otherwise, it was a fantastic and memorable experience.

Smooth and Memorable Journey

I loved the variety of this tour, vibrant cities, quiet villages, and the desert all in one itinerary. Chefchaouen’s blue streets were my favourite, while Marrakech was exciting but busy. Memphis Tours made everything easy, from transfers to meals.

A Trip Full of Variety

I’ve always dreamed of riding a camel through the Sahara, and this tour made it come true. The landscapes were breathtaking, and the local music by the campfire was magical. The only issue was the heat during the day, but that’s to be expected in the desert. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.

The Spirit of Morocco

From Marrakech’s busy souks to Chefchaouen’s blue streets, every stop felt like a highlight. Memphis Tours organized everything perfectly. The guide was outstanding and full of knowledge. The only challenge was the crowds in Fez, but that’s part of its charm.

Perfect First Trip to Morocco

The tour was perfectly balanced. We had time to explore the cities, but also moments of peace in the desert and mountains. The riads we stayed in were stunning, especially in Fez. The roads were a little tiring at times, but our driver was excellent and safe.

Isabella

Perfect Balance of Culture and Relaxation

This trip was a great introduction to Morocco. Marrakech was full of life, but the highlight for me was the calm of the Sahara desert under the stars. The organisation was smooth, and our guide was very patient with all our questions. Some drives were long, but the stops were well planned.
