Day 02: Pyramids and Cairo Tours - Train to Luxor

Check-out after breakfast to be ready for a full day of tours exploring Cairo. Your private expert Tour Guide will accompany you to visit the famous Pyramids in the area beginning with the famous Giza Pyramids, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - the Great Pyramid of Khufu (called Cheops by the Ancient Greeks). Also on the Plateau are the pyramids of Khafre (Chephren) and the smaller one of Menkaure (Mykerinos). The Plateau is as famous for the mysterious structure 'the Sphinx' as it is for the Pyramids where you will visit the Valley Temple. Then on to the world-renowned Egyptian Museum of Antiquities in Cairo, built in neo-classical style and designed by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon. The Museum's vast collection of over 120,000 artifacts ranges from Pre-Dynastic era, through the Pharaonic era to the Greco-Roman period of Egypt. Amongst the most famous items which you may see are the funerary treasures of the Boy King Tutankhamun, the colossal statues of the heretic king, Akhenaten, and the only surviving image of Khufu, creator of Egypt's Great Pyramid. Visiting the Museum is a great introduction to learning about the ancient Egyptian civilization, including their famous art of Mummification. Your Egypt Cairo tour then takes you to the Christian heritage in Coptic Cairo, including some of the early religious monuments of the city such as the Hanging Church. This basilica church was named for its location on top of the south gate of the Fortress of Babylon and became the centre of the Christian Church of Egypt. A visit to the famous Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, a major souk in the Islamic district of Cairo will end your day with the chance to shop for those hand crafted Egyptians gifts. The bazaar district is one of Cairo's main attractions for tourists and Egyptians alike. Finally you will be transferred to Giza Train Station for your overnight trip to Luxor by sleeper train (private compartment) with dinner and breakfast included.

The hypostyle hall with its colossal granite columns is one of Egypt’s infamous landmarks. There will be free time to explore the different parts of the huge complex built during the reigns of various Pharaohs, then moving to Luxor Temple which was built by Amenhotep III and Ramses II for ritual and festivals that was dedicated to the god Amon. At night, there is an optional evening Sound and Light show at Karnak Temple which tells the story of Luxor and Karnak ( once the Old Capital of Egypt known as ‘Thebes’) before joining your cruise ship for dinner on board with an entertainment programme and overnight aboard the cruise boat in Luxor.

Day 04: Luxor Nile Cruise Tour - Sail to Edfu

Enjoy breakfast on board the Nile cruise boat in Luxor before being escorted by your Tour Guide over to the West Bank of the Nile to the sites of the Ancient tombs ( a royal cemetery of 62 Pharaohs) known as the Valley of the Kings, overall one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. A visit to the two colossal statues of Amenhotep III (Colossi of Memnon). At the Valley of the Kings, you will see a selection of beautifully decorated rock-cut tombs, many of which still display vibrant colour and breathtaking detail of deities and scenes from the Book of the Underworld. The most visited tombs have walkways and electric lighting, and the internal walls are protected by glass. (The three tombs visited are determined by the Egyptian Government as to preserve them from the large flow of visitors, therefore are rotated throughout the year and cannot be confirmed as to which tombs prior to your visit).Moving on to the impressive colonnaded and terraced Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri, (the only female Pharaoh in Egypt) which was built into a high cliff face and has graphics telling the story of Hatshepsut’s expeditions to the mysterious land of Punt. Sail to Edfu with afternoon tea. Enjoy some leisurely free time aboard the cruise and then have dinner and an enjoyable overnight stay
Please note* There is an additional charge to enter the Tombs of of King Tutankhamun and Ramses VI.

Two statues of Horus flank the twin towered entrance gate; and inside, one of the interesting inscriptions lists the titles of books (scrolls) held in the library. After Edfu, continue sailing with lunch and afternoon tea before reaching Kom Ombo Temple . Of all the ancient temples in Egypt, this is the only one which is divided into two, dedicated to two Gods Sobek, the Crocodile God of fertility; and the falcon-headed Horus, God of the sky. The most remarkable feature of the temple of Abu-Simbel is that the construction is oriented in a way that twice a year, the morning sun rays shine through the length of the inner temple cave and illuminate the statues of the four Gods seated at the end of the cave.
