The city of Petra is one of Jordan's national treasures, the capital of the Nabataean Arabs and is one of the most famous archaeological & Touristic sites. It is Located 240 km south of the capital Amman and 120 km north of the red sea town of Aqapa. and famous of it's carved into the sheer rock. Till now nobody know when Petra was built exactly , but the city began to be known as the capital of the Nabataean Empire from the 1st century BC, it grew very rich through trade in spices, myrrh, the silk and More. Petra was Continued to grow until a the large earthquake in 363 AD which destroyed big part of the city in the 4th century AD and this led to the downfall of the city.
 
In 1812 Johannes Burckhardt set out to ‘rediscover’ Petra; After this, Petra became increasingly known in the West as the lost city, and it began attracting Travellers. Petra is also known as the rose-red city, because of its wonderful colour of the rock from which many of the city’s structures were carved.
 
The Siq of petra is the entrance of the city, it is a narrow gorge, over 1km in length, which is flanked on either side by soaring, 80m high cliffs. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of the Treasury which is a popular tourist attraction in petra and is one of the most elaborate temples in the ancient Arab Nabatean Kingdom. Petra also contain a Roman-style theatre, which could seat 3,000 people. There are obelisks, temples, sacrificial altars and colonnaded streets, and high above
